Our Story

Born of the dehesa.

The story of an Extremaduran restaurant in Badajoz, rooted in the dehesa, Extremadura's oak-studded pastureland.

Our tribute to Badajoz

Casa Áurea began with a simple idea: that Badajoz and its land deserve a table worthy of them. The dehesa (Extremadura's oak-studded pastureland), Iberian pork, olive oil, vegetables from the fertile river plain and the wines of the Ribera del Guadiana appellation were already extraordinary. All that was missing was to cook them without hurry and without tricks.

That is why olive oil is our golden thread. It appears on the grill, in the dressing, in the final gesture before the dish goes out to the dining room. It is not a garnish: it is what ties each recipe to the landscape it comes from.

Here we don't set out to impress with tricks. We want you to recognise the flavour of Extremadura and, at the same time, feel as though you were tasting it for the first time.

How we choose what we cook

  1. Seasonal produce.

We cook what the land gives at each moment. The menu changes when the countryside does.

  2. Close to home.

We favour produce from Extremadura and its surroundings, because the shorter its journey, the better it reaches the table.

  3. Contemporary technique on traditional recipes.

We respect the recipe and refine the technique: precise cooking, clean textures, nothing that masks the produce.

The people who cook and serve

Behind every dish is a small team that cooks and serves to the same standard: ingredients first, technique in their service, and a dining-room team that explains what you're eating without ever making you feel out of your depth.
